Twitter took a different approach and showed us “the brands worth remembering”. Twitter categorized these as, “Best Campaign for _______”.
Quenching Our Thirst for Sports
COVID canceled a lot of things and sports was no exception. Gatorade provided the perfect antidote for our Sports craving. Their tweet featured ESPN’s The Last Dance event. It showcased Basketball legend Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bull’s 1998 Finals Game 6. Their “Be Like Mike” Campaign certainly had everyone’s cravings satiated.
Driving Positive Change
“If you can stay home, we can stop this.” Uber encouraged the public to stay home through powerful imagery and messaging. Their visual featured a black square with television static and text reading, “This image isn’t moving. Neither should you.” Uber is one of the industry’s leading rideshare apps, so when they came out with this messaging it was certainly heard loud and clear.
Speaking Out and Standing Up
Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream certainly told us what was not cool this year. The answer: Racism. The beloved ice cream company spoke up about the origins of Juneteenth and the need to “continue the long march towards justice”.
Connecting Us from Our Couch
This year was especially brutal for concert goers. Concerts were canceled left and right. Oh, how we wished there was just one concert we could attend. Wish no more, Dreamworks “Trolls World Tour” was right there to sparkle some joy into our living rooms. The Trolls Tweet featured an invitation to the Watch Party with an image of the main characters ready to rock our television screens.
Redefining Home Entertainment
Small businesses have taken quite the hit due to COVID-19. That is why it was especially heartwarming to watch a large company like Verizon lend a helping hand. They launched their #PayItForwardLIVE campaign which featured big names helping small businesses every Tuesday and Thursday. These live streams have made Verizon popular among their fans and small businesses across the country. Talk about a wide bandwidth!
From the Future
Some people could barely handle the reality of COVID-19. After all, who could blame you?! Many of us have been in lockdown or in full-blown quarantine. When HBO’s Westworld offered a glimpse into the year 2058, we were thrilled to escape in 2020, even if it was through our television screens. The Westworld Tweet offered to show us who we might be by reviewing our Twitter feed if we liked their tweet.
Making us Nostalgic
Speaking of escapism, AirBnB offered a nice dose of nostalgia through our old pal Blockbuster. AirBnb tugged our heartstrings by providing us with the small ounce of comfort Blockbuster once did by showcasing “The Last Blockbuster in the world” is up for bookings.
Making Missing Out Memorable
Graduations were most certainly canceled this year. Chase found a way to make it memorable by hosting a “Live Celebration for the Class of 2020” with the hashtag #ShowMeYourWalk. It was a fantastic event celebrating the graduates for all to see. After all, what’s a bigger stage than the internet?! Congratulations Class of 2020!
That Rallied their Community
Ahhh the beloved Ma and Pa shops. Oh, how we love you! So when a small business like Manny’s Deli needed help, they took to Twitter for help. Sure enough, the community rolled out and supported them in their time of need. Manny’s Deli later Tweeted their appreciation *cue the tears* Their tweet featured a photo of an employee with PPE waving to the camera behind the counter. This heartwarming image served as a reminder to #ShopSmall and help our communities.
